I do a lot of research on topics of the Bible and the history of the Jews. Themes of discussion seem to come and go across the Internet. The theme I see most often right now is the discussion of saying Jesus or Yeshua. Since I am a One God Apostolic born-again believer in Jesus’ Name, this topic interested me greatly. I have seen and experienced the power of using Jesus’ name all my life. I started looking into this study about 4 years ago and I believe God has settled my mind on the topic.
Was the New Testament written in Hebrew or Greek?
Jesus was a Jew. All the disciples were Jews. All of the 3000 and the 5000 saved in the first two chapters of the book of Acts were Jews. The Gentiles don’t come into the picture until Acts chapter 10. Since all of the writers of the Bible were Jews, and they were writing to Jews, it is a lot more likely the New Testament was first written in Hebrew and then translated into Greek. Finding the Hebrew Matthew’s hidden copy makes this more probable.
Consider the times of the New Testaments’ addition to Cannon. The Jews were hated, and Constantine didn’t want his new religion associated with them. Therefore, they did everything possible to disassociate the fact Jesus was a Jew, including translating all of the New Testament into Greek. The word Jesus is an English translation of the Lesus in Classical Latin. Latin was the language of Romans at the time.
I recommend this book if you want to learn about the Hebrew Matthew.
Which is right Jesus or Yeshua?
This is not a copout, but both are correct. Yeshua is His Hebrew name, and it means Yehovah to deliver, save, or rescue. Yeshua is His Hebrew name, and it is listed this way in the Hebrew version of the book of Matthew.
When Nimrod built the Tower of Babel, God came down to see what they had done. God decided to confound their language to make them all speak different languages so they couldn’t plot and plan together. Now a God who is smart enough to create the universe would certainly understand that if He gave all these people different languages then they would have different names for Him. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God says everyone is to call me “this”. Therefore, I conclude He knows what His name is in every language, and He is fine with us using our own language or His language which I believe is Hebrew.
Genesis 11:6-9 (KJV) 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
